Red Sox Season 2008

The 2008 Red Sox season has begin! As you can tell from the above AP story, Manny Ramirez wanted to make sure that this is another wonderful year for the Boston Red Sox. He had a terrific off-season workout and the word on the street, from City of Palms Park, is that he is in great shape this year! He spent much of the Winter in Arizona working out.

We are looking forward to watching the Boston Red Sox become the first team since the 2000 New York Yankees to win back to back champions. I heard on ESPN radio that the Yankees will be AL Champions. However, I don't think this will be the case since Joe Torre is not the manager this year.

One good thing about the start of baseball season is a sure sign that Spring is here. Its been a long winter in New England. We got a lot more snow this year than we have gotten in the past few years.

Patriots Loose!

So the Patriots didn’t end the season with a perfect record. It was quite a run! I think its been a long time since New England got this disapointed. I can think of two other events:

  • Red Sox - 1986 World Series, Game 6.
  • Patriots - 1986 SuperBowl against the Chicago Bears.

New England teams have come back strong from these defeats. Patriots fans don’t worry! The 2008 season starts in 6 months.

Yes the Dolphin fans can go back and celebrate being the only team, in the modern era, to be SuperBowl champions with an undefeated season. Congratulations!

The SuperBowl was a great game to watch and it all came down to a couple of minutes in the 4th quarter. The ratings are in and its one of the most watched SuperBowls in history. Lots of drama throughout the game.

New England fans can now focus on the red hot Celtics and start thinking about the Boston Red Sox as Pitchers and Catchers report in a few weeks. There’s no question, when it comes to major league sports, New England is the place to be.

Champions still play in Foxboro, Fenway Park and the Boston Garden.

Patriots and Giants

Congratulations to the New England Patriots and the New York Giants for getting to Superbowl 42. Should be an exciting game!

Superbowl XLII will be on February 3, 2008 at 6:15 EST.

I would highly recommend on going to Las Vegas or Reno and going to a SuperBowl party. In 2002, I went to Reno for $35 I was at an all you can eat buffet for the entire game. great food and fun times.

New England Patriots

Congratulations to the New England Patriots on being the first team to go 16-0! What an exciting game against the New York Giants.

What a great game by Tom Brady and Randy Moss, certainly worth the coverage by 3 networks. Who know what the post season will bring the to the New England Patriots.

So the Boston Red Sox win their 2nd Championship in 3 years and the Boston Celtics are off the to best start in Basketball history. It certainly the best time to be in the New England market.

Sorry to all my friends in California, its really nice to be in New England sports fan right now. It doesn't matter how much snow there is on the ground. Being the first team in 25 years to go undefeated and to have a winning Basketball team and a championship baseball team. It doesn't get any better than this.

Red Sox Win the World Series!

Congratulations on the Boston Red Sox on winning another World Series!

What an awesome year it has been for the Boston Red Sox! There was so much exciting drama, from signing Dice-K to staying number one in the east for most of the season. Winning the World Series was an awesome way to end a great season, and a special way to remember the Impossible Dream Team of 1967.

Red Sox Nation is looking forward to hearing all the off-season news over the next few months. We'll soon find out who stays and who goes and all new faces that show up at the City of Palms for Spring Training. Where will Mike Lowell and Curt Schilling end up? Will the head office extend Terry Francona contract before it ends next year?

The win this year certainly shows that a good team is made of many different players and in baseball, having a good farm league can really benefit the teams long term prospect. While some veteran players, such as Mike Lowell and Jason Varitek put in some strong numbers, some young players such as Jacoby Ellsbury and Dustin Pedroia also made significant contributions.

Get ready because the 2008 Red Sox season starts right now...

World Series Game One

Yes a World Series game was played last night, its hard to believe it. Thirteen runs and sixteen hits by the 5th inning? By only one team?

Didn’t the Red Sox almost face elimination three times in the past week by the Cleveland Indians? Didn’t most of the Boston Media write them off?

The Colorado Rockies were supposed to be the best team in the post season. They didn’t loose one game in the post season, and were on a 21 game winning streak. Did the eight day layoff cause them to loose their steam? Perhaps, or it could be working out in the snow in Colorado early this week.

Wait a minute Boston, before you start planning the victory parade, remember this is one game of baseball. There’s plenty of game to play.

The FOX announcers were quick to point out how the Red Sox faced the same type of game in game three of the 2004 ALCS. They managed to regroup and win the next four games and the ALCS title.

As exciting as it was to watch them play, what’s more interesting is too see what the Colorado Rockies do tomorrow night again Kurt Schilling. This will probably be his last game in a Red Sox uniform.

Right now, we celebrate a very nice victory. Congratulations Red Sox on winning Game One of the 2007 World Series.

World Series - Game One

Nothing comes easy in Life. Nobody ever gives you something because you wear a particular shirt.

Tonight the Red Sox will show everyone that they are the best team in baseball. The latest sports book has the Red Sox favored by 2 to 1 to win the World Series.

WTTK, a Boston area talk statioin, has been running segments on people that aren't into baseball and what they have been doing. I think most Bostonians are very excited that the Red Sox are in the World Series. Without question this is very good for the city.

If your heading to see the game take the 'T', avoid the large crowds that is expected to be in the area. After the game, take your time heading back, since there's usually a long wait to catch the 'T' out bound to Riverside.

Tomorrow, I'll make available some Wallpaper of Fenway park of photos that I took this year.

Red Sox win the ALCS!

Red Sox are going to the World Series!

Congratulations on the Boston Red Sox on making it back to the world series. In fact they did it in the exact same way as the last time, by sweeping the ALDS and winning the ALCS when down 3-1.

Boston this morning is very exciting place to be, the radio is all about the Red Sox win and about the exciting game last night. While the score was 11-2, it was close game. In fact, it was still uncertain until the bottom of the 8th inning.

So, once again Boston is the place to be in October. With the Red Sox going to the World Series, Patriots making a run for a 16-0 season, and Boston College ranked #2 in the nation, this is definitely a sports town!

The Boston area is celebrating other exciting news, we are ranked #1 in education and have one of the lowest unemployment rates in the country.

Yes, there's lots to be excited to this morning. So if your in Boston, enjoy your Dunkin Donut coffee this morning, and start making your plans to watch the World Series on Wednesday night.

October 09, 2007
2007 ALCS is set

Yankee Loose!

Wow the Yankees couldn't make it past the ALDS this year. For most baseball analysts this wasn't a surprise since they didn't have very good pitching. The last few weeks of baseball was a focus on just making the playoffs. While most of the other teams were focus on surviving the playoffs.

I think Joe Torre made a mistake using Chien-Ming Wang as a starter pitcher with only three days of rest. Chien-Ming Wang didn't last 2 innings, he was taken out in the second inning with no outs. I am sure the New York papers and sports talk shows will be talking about this all day today.

So, its Red Sox vs Indians this Friday night. Should be an exciting series. Red Sox have the edge with experience and better pitching. They also beat the Indians five times during the regular season. I think the Red Sox will win the series by 4-2.

In Boston, there's lot of excitement that this might be another repeat of the 2004 Championship. The pitching is much better this year and the team is healther. Local news are reporting that Bleacher seats that sell for about $20 a game are going for $250 from ticket resellers.

ALCS

Red Sox Win! Red Sox Win! Wahoo!!!

What a great game on Sunday, Manny and Ortiz hit home runs! Everyone played a great series! I love this quote from Larry Lucchino, Red Sox CEO in this mornings Boston Globe:

The Sox await the winner of the Indians-Yankees series.

"That surprises me a little," Lucchino said, "because in the past I've always felt you had to go through Yankee Stadium to validate your quest. I don't feel that way this year.

"Maybe it's a function of us being tested the way we've been the last few years - we've had a lot of intense experiences with them - but the train doesn't have to drive through the Bronx in order for us to get to the promised land."

I am hoping that the Indians-Yankees series goes 5 games, so the winner of the series is pretty tired by the time they come to Fenway Park.

Daunte Culpepper

Yesterday Daunte Culpepper was release from the Miami Dolphins, the AP ran the following quote:

As I was going through this process I heard about a quote by Gandhi that best expresses my thoughts about this victory: 'First they ignore you, then they ridicule you, then they fight you, then you win,'" Culpepper, who serves as his own agent, said in an e-mail. "Now that I have won my freedom and I get to choose my next team, I am just like many other people who have to go out and find employment so that I can take care of my family."

I think its a very positive outlook on the whole situation. The NFL is a tough business and the francise owners are under a lot of pressure to have a winning team.

Red Sox Season Over

For the first time in 4 years, the Boston Red Sox will not be playing in the post season. Last night game, the last game of the season, was called off after the 5th inning due to the rain.

I was very lucky to have the opportunity to attend 5 games this year. The best games was on July 30th and August 11, both games the Red Sox came from behind and won! The last two games were a disapointment because it was very obvious that the Red Sox weren't going to the post season. The croud wasn't in it, and quiet frankly the Red Sox just didn't seem to be playing competitively.

Maybe the Red Sox will make the playoffs next year. However I don't expect that the Red Sox be out of the papers. Boston is a Baseball town, and the rumors of the changes that the head office will make will certainly be headlines to no matter what the Celtics and Bruins are doing.

The New England Patriots are off to a good start, they just beat the Cincinnati Bengals in Cincinnati. Can't wait to watch Bill Belichick work his magic this year.

October 03, 2005
Red Sox win!
I know its been a while since I posted anything, but I have been pretty busy with work. I have been working on some pretty busy projects and have done a little bit of travel in the past few months.

The Red Sox are playing in the post season again! Once again the Red Sox nation will be up late every night partying like its 2004!

The Red Sox vs White Sox match up looks to be a good one.

September 07, 2005
David Ortiz!
Once again, David Ortiz hit a game winning home run in the bottom of the 9th against the Angels.

The feeling at fenway was almost the same as it was last October when Ortiz did it against the Angels. I have a feeling that, unless the bases are loaded, that he will be walked in the rest of the series.

The Red Sox are now 3 games a head of the New York Yankees!

I plan to record every Red Sox game that is broadcast on WEEI in September. The Red Sox are playing much better than they did in 2004!

August 03, 2005
Manny being Manny
Its great that Manny Ramirez is not leaving Boston. The radio host on WEEI told his audience on Saturday night that it would be best for the Red Sox if Manny were to leave. He argued that Manny cost the Red Sox too much.

However, given that the Red Sox won the last two games and are now 3.5 games a head of the Yankees in early August, I would think keeping Manny is worth the investment. Manny was a key player in the past two games.

We'll have to see how this plays out during the next two months, but things are looking pretty good for the Red Sox!

June 27, 2005
Red Sox win!
The Red Sox, who left Fenway Park on June 19 trailing Baltimore by three games in the AL East, returned home leading the Orioles by 2 1/2 games. The 6-0 trip extended the Sox' winning streak to seven games and completed the club's first perfect road trip of six-or-more games since July 29-Aug. 7, 1977 (9-0, with stops at California, Seattle and Oakland).

The Sox, who won for the 12th time in 13 games, had 15 hits in the road trip finale, extending their streak with 10-or-more hits to seven straight games and 12 of the last 13. They scored at least five runs for the 14th time in 15 games.

Patriots SuperBowl Champions
Four months ago the Boston Red Sox won the World Series, and yesterday the New England Patriots won the Superbowl.

This was almost a repeat of the 2001-2002 season, since they had to beat the Pittsburgh Steelers in their stadium and they won the game by 3 points. Thankfully the game ended by having Tom Brady take a knee drop at the end of the game.

On "Fat Tuesday", the Boston Area will give thanks by having a rolling rally. It will be interesting to see how many people show up.

Reasons why most people won't show up:

  1. Regular Business day, however people that work along the route will probably take a long lunch.
  2. School is in session
  3. This is the third rally in 4 years...

Patriots
The New England Patriots are going back to the Superbowl!

Just four months ago the Boston Red Sox won the World Series, and now the Patriots will have the opportunity to win back to back Superbowl championships!

Right after the game last night, some sports analysis were crunching the numbers and predicted that the Patriots will easily beat the Eagles. This is based on how each team faired against tough opponents.

Over the next few weeks expect to here a lot about coach Bill Belichick playing strategy. In the meantime here are some quotes:

"I'll never pick against the Pats again," wrote Yahoo analyst and former All-Pro Cris Carter.

"The Patriots are the premier team in football. Again," wrote Sports Illustrated's Peter King.

"They may be the greatest team ever," opined ESPN's Chris Mortenson.

January 02, 2005
New England Patriots
The New England Patriots had a great game against the 49ers. I remember watching the 49ers play when I was in San Francisco and there were only a couple of names that I recognized.

Well, the New England Patriots have a week off to relax and get ready to play some exciting Playoff football! Getting Playoff tickets is just the same as getting regular season tickets. They are sold out!

October 28, 2004
Red Sox are Champions again!
Congratulations to the Boston Red Sox on winning another World Champion!

It took 86 years to win this title!

Some significant factors in yesterdays win:

  • This was the 100th World Series.
  • Yesterday was the first World Series to be played during a Total Lunar Eclipse.
  • It was on the 18th anniversary of the 1986 7th Game lost to the Mets.
  • Red Sox won 8 in a row, the longest winning streak in post season.
Boston Globe
I spent time this morning visiting several connivence stores looking for today's Boston Globe. I was surprise that they were sold out by 8 am this morning! I finally found a copy at the CVS in downtown Waltham.

Today's Boston Globe should sell out since many Red Sox fans will be buying them as a souvenir. There are plenty of Boston Heralds around, but it seems that the Globe is the paper of choice this morning.

October 26, 2004
Game 3: Pedro Martinez & Keith Foulke
Pedro Martinez won game 3 against the Cardinals, which gave Boston a 3-0 lead and an almost certain World Series Victory.

Two weeks ago, the New York Yankees had that same thought. The difference is that the Red Sox have more reasons to win than the Cardinals and the momentum is certainly on the Red Sox side...

The key play of the game was in the third inning:

Ahead 1-0, Boston did it again with defense in the third.

Suppan started it with a swinging-bunt single and Edgar Renteria hit a double that sent Nixon sliding feet first into a warning track puddle, a pratfall right out of a Wet&Wild Ride&Slide.

Again the crowd came to its feet, sensing the big hit that St. Louis needed. Walker instead rapped a weak grounder to second baseman Mark Bellhorn, which should have easily been enough to advance the runners and score the tying run.

Suppan, however, made a quick break for the plate and stopped while Renteria took off for third. Ortiz caught Bellhorn's throw, took a second and then noticed the Cardinals' confusion on the bases.

Ortiz made a perfect throw across the diamond to nail Suppan, and a grounder by Pujols ended the inning and brought out the boos.

Keith Foulke was sensational as the Red Sox closer, he was picked up last year because the Red Sox almost made it to the playoffs last year, but didn't have a good closer.
October 21, 2004
World Series Bound
The Boston Red Sox beat the New York Yankees last night winning the first spot on the 2004 World Series ticket. By beating the Yankees yesterday the Red Sox became the first team in Major League Baseball history to come back and win a series after loosing the first three games. This morning World Series tickets will be available by phone:
A limited number of tickets for Games 1, 2, 6 and 7 of the World Series will be available by telephone today at 3 p.m.: (617) 482-4SOX
Game 1 starts on Saturday at Fenway Park!
October 19, 2004
Game 5: David Ortiz
David Ortiz must really want to be MVP of the ALCS. Once again, he saved the day and got a base hit in the bottom of the 14th inning which scored Johnny Damon.

A few notes about the game:

  • The game lasted 5 hours and 49 minutes. (Longest ALCS Game in history)
  • The Red Sox and Yankees had played back-to-back marathon games that totaled almost 11 hours — 5 hours, 2 minutes on Sunday and 5 hours, 49 minutes Monday
  • Waisting no time, as soon as the game got over, the Red Sox got on a bus and headed to New York.
  • Half the Red Sox ran to greet Damon coming home; the others mobbed Ortiz halfway to second base.
The six game of the series is on at 8:19 tonight. If past games are any clue, that means most New Englanders won't goto sleep until 1 am. Dunkin Donuts should have another busy morning tomorrow!
October 18, 2004
Red Sox Win game 4!
At 1:30 this morning the Red Sox finally woke up! David Ortiz hit a homerun in the 12th inning which resulted in a win again the New York Yankees in Game 4.

Tonight the baseball game starts at 5pm. I have a feeling that productivity around New England will drop around 3:30 this afternoon. In fact, since the game ended so late, I bet a lot of people decided to "work from home" today.

Last night I watched the game from home and used the WEEI as the audio. I noticed that the game on TV was about 1.5 seconds behind the radio feed. It made it weird to watch the game.

I am not sure if the delay was from FOX or from TIVO caused the delay. I'll test it later tonight since the CC Radio I have also picks up channel 7, and I can see if the delay also happens during a news broadcast.

October 13, 2004
Red Sox Loose
Well, the Red Sox lost game one. What looked like a blowout by the Yankees turned into a tight game in the later innings.

Today the big debate is what will New Englanders will be watching on TV tonight. Game 2 of the ALCS and the third presidential debate are on tonight.

I suspect that the overnight ratings will show that most New Englanders care more for the results of the baseball game than who wins the final debate.

October 12, 2004
Red Sox vs Yankees
Tonight is game 1 of the ALCS series against the Boston Red Sox and the New York Yankees.

All the local networks started with this mornings newscast about the big game tonight. Even the local papers have special covers and coverage of the series.

Some people think that the Red Sox will sweep the Yankees. I predict that the Red Sox will probably take game 1, loose game 2, but will win the series with Padro in game 6.

This is a rematch from last year, watch for the sparks to fly...

Hollywood couldn't come up with a better script...

March 30, 2004
2004 Baseball Season
The Red Sox Magic number is 161.

This morning the New York Yankees lost their first game of the 2004 season to the Tampa Bay Devil Ray in Japan.

No riots in the Back Bay in Boston, not one car was flipped over, not one beer bottle was thrown into Mass Ave.

Its going to be a long season, which brings up an interesting questions: Who will have more press coverage over the next 7 months, the Red Sox and Yankees or George W. Bush and John Kerry?

With gas prices in Boston at $2 and the cheapest ticket at Fenway cost $20, we are better off walking to the nearest pub and watching the game with a cold beer.

February 07, 2004
Janet Jackson
Janet Jackson appeared tonight on Larry King Live, six days after her Superbowl half time appearance. The interview focus more on her life and the new album than the Superbowl controversy. Oddly enough she has a new album coming out this week.

The Recording Academy has installed a 5 minute delay on the Grammy Awards to prevent another media disaster.

Superbowl XXXVIII
Congratulations to the New England Patriots for winning Superbowl XXXVIII!

Fans around Boston University and Northeastern last night were celebrating the traditional LA way by rioting in the streets and flipping over cars.

Local radio stations were wondering what would happen to Boston when the Red Sox would win a World Series.

Bill Belichick did a great job in executing a great Superbowl game plan!

So right now:

  • New England Patriots are Champions
  • Massachusetts Senator John Kerry is leading the Democrats
  • Boston Bruins are the hottest team in the east.
  • Boston Red Sox are building the best team in Baseball.
Not a bad time to be in Massachusetts!
February 01, 2004
Superbowl XXXVIII
Today is the biggest day in Football, its Superbowl Sunday. The New England Patriots are 7 points favorite over the Carolina Panthers.

Game starts at 6:30 pm eastern, expect long waits at the pizza places starting at 5 pm. Yes, today is the busiest day for pizza delivery. Tomorrow you should see a press release from Dominos about the number of pizzas that were delivered during the Superbowl.

January 31, 2004
Patriots Get Ready
The New England Patriots are currently 7 points favorites over the Carolina Panthers in Houston.

Another act is poised to join Janet Jackson, Sean "P. Diddy" Combs, Kid Rock and Nelly during the half time show. Who that is will remain a mystery until the program, producers said Thursday. The New England Patriots and the Carolina Panthers play Sunday in Reliant Stadium.

December 01, 2003
Patriots Win
The New England Patriots have won eight straight, the longest streak in the NFL, and are 10-2 for the first time in franchise history. Yesterday win over the Colts was pure drama with the defense keeping the Colts out of the end zone from the 1 yard line 3 times!

Also this weekend was the announcement of a Curt Schilling to the Red Sox lineup. The star right-hander and five-time All-Star waived his no-trade clause, setting in motion a deal that was reached in principle by the Red Sox and Diamondbacks on Monday, acquiring Schilling, the Red Sox parted with left-hander Casey Fossum, right-hander Brandon Lyon, pitching prospect Jorge De La Rosa and a minor leaguer to be named.

October 05, 2003
Red Sox Win!
Well the Boston Red Sox live to play baseball one more day. Last night ALCS game was very exiting with moments of pure drama. This afternoon's game is sure to be as exciting as well.

There were many loyal Red Sox fans that slept on the cold pavement on Yawkey Way waiting for the Red Sox to release some no show tickets to the game, only to be disappointed that there were no tickets available.

This afternoons game will be played at the same time as the football moves into Week 5 and the New England Patriots battle against the Tennessee Titans in Foxborough. I suspect that the Red Sox game will get higher TV ratings.

October 02, 2003
Golf at Stow Acres
I was very disapointed that the Red Sox lost both games 1 and 2 of the wild card games. I stayed up til 2:11 this morning to watch Byung Hyun Kim blow a 2 run lead in the ninth in game one.

Golf at Stow Acres
I play 18 holes of golf at the south course at Stow Acres. It costs $42 to play 18 holes and $30 for the golf cart. In a couple of weeks it will be great time to play golf in Stow. The colors of fall will be evident at every hole.

The seventh hole on the south course will be great photo opportunity in a couple of weeks. The combination of the large red barn, green grass and the various mix of fall colors in the background will make it the perfect photo scene.

October 01, 2003
Red Sox Baseball
There's a lot of talk in the local media complaining about the times of the first two games of the playoffs in Oakland. Tonight's game is at 10pm EST and tomorrow's game starts at 4pm EST. The schedule was created by ESPN and Fox as the national media wants the Yankees to be in Primetime.

The weather is getting cooler in New England and I'll probably take out my air conditioner sometime today. In a few days most of New England will have its first frost.

This is a great time of the year to be on Cape Cod. Many local resturants will still be open through the Columbus Day weekend. Its a great time to go for a stroll on the cool beaches. The color of the trees don't change until later in the month. If you play golf, October is great time to play on the Cape!

September 25, 2003
Red Sox Clinch Playoff Spot
Congratulations to the Boston Red Sox on clinching a wild card spot! David Lowe did a great job on controling the Orioles tonight!

Post season tickets went on sale last Friday and it took less than 2 hours to sell out the 9,000 tickets per game for the Wild Card games that will be held in Fenway. Oddly enough the Green Monster tickets haven't gone on sale yet. I suspect that they will be the most expensive tickets available, or that they will be promos for radio shows.

The new magic number for the Red Sox is 11. That's the number of wins that they need to accomplish to be the 2003 World Champions.
