This past August we stayed at the Hershey Lodge for a few days while we enjoyed the park. During our stay, we ate several meals at the Fire and Grain restaurant.

We recently traveled from the Boston Area to Hershey, Pennsylvania for vacation. We decided to avoid the area around New York City since we didn't want to stuck in any traffic.
About halfway through our journey, we got a little hungry and looked for some places to eat and take a quick break for the kids in the car. We found a cute restaurant just off of I-84 called "184 Country Store."
This is a cute place to stop for kids. There are a few things outside where they could explore. The restaurant has a nice type store inside where you can find all sorts of unique General Store things.
This is a good place to stop for not only for food but also to browse around and shop for things.
The general setup is that you place your order at the register and then sit down at a table and wait for them to bring the food over to your table.
The menu featured lots of popular sandwiches. We asked about Gluten Free options and the cashier didn't really know what was available. She checked with the chief to see what foods were available for my daughter.
The only option they came up with was a Cheese Omelet, which they would happily make even though they didn't serve Omelets for lunch.
When the cook delivered the meal, he told us that he makes sure that the grill was completely cleaned before cooking the Omelet.
My daughter liked her meal and ate a lot of it. I think she ate a lot of the snacks in the car beforehand and wasn't all that hungry.
In addition, I think she was a bit distracted will all the store merchandise around that she didn't really want to sit and eat.
The 184 Country Store was a great stop over place. It would have been nice if they had better gluten-free options, for example, it would have been nice if they could have done a Philly Cheese Steak with no bun.
After eating, we had a fun time browsing around the store looking at various things. The kids had fun checking out the dollhouse and fake jail outside.
This is certainly a better stop than going to a fast food restaurant and would recommend it to anyone heading on I-84 in Pennsylvania. The place gave everyone a chance to stretch their legs for a bit.
The 184 Country Store is located in Greentown Pennsylvania, 101 Creamery Rd, Greentown, PA 18426.

This past week we visit the Great Wolf Lodge in Fitchburg, Massachusetts, otherwise known as Great Wolf New England. We spent 2 days at the Waterpark and having fun with the MagiQuest.
We had Dinner and breakfast at the Lodge Wood Fired Grill. Eating out can be a challenge with a seven-year-old that needs to eat Gluten Free.
The Lodge Wood Fired Grill had a dinner buffet, but when we went up to see what was being served, we didn't really see anything that was safe and decided to stick to the menu.
When the server came to our table, we told him about my daughter allergy and he told us that it was the restaurant policy to have a chef come and talk to us about our options.
A couple of minutes later, the chief came over and talked to my daughter about what she wanted to have for dinner. It was nice that they started that way to allow my daughter to pick what she wanted. She wanted Mac & Cheese, Chicken Nuggets, and french fries. Basically, the same thing that her friend was having.
The chief told us that he would be able to make all of that gluten-free, the Mac & Cheese would take a bit because they need to boil a fresh pot of water. He would get the chicken nuggets and fries out as soon as possible.
The chicken nuggets and fries did come out pretty quickly - just before the adult's meals. About 10 minutes later the Mac & Cheese came out.
My daughter was very happy to have her Mac & Cheese and other things that she wanted. She didn't feel left out from not having the same thing that her friend was having.
My daughter got a lot of food, she enjoyed it and was very happy.
We went up to the buffet and picked things that we knew were safe for her to eat. We did meet a chief at the buffet and they came to see us at our table to explain other options - including making a special plate of Potatoes because the ones at the buffet were deeply fried not in a dedicated fryer.
Breakfast was good. She got a lot of potatoes, she probably only need 2-3. She was happy to have lots of options and enjoyed the sausage and bacon too. (We noticed that the bacon wasn't all that salty.)
Interesting Message on the Dinning Page:

There's nothing spending a nice summer week on Cape Cod and enjoying the wonderful beaches and golf courses. The only thing that should make the day better is a nice ice cream before heading home.
In Orleans, most people will go to Sundae School to get their frozen treat. That's a good choice. But you should consider going to the Ice Cream Cafe near the Christmas Tree Shop.
The Ice Cream Cafe has a larger selection of ice cream flavors than Sundae School. They even have Vanilla and Chocolate soft serve ice cream.
One of the nice things to see is they have Gluten Free Cones. They have both the sugar and regular cones. My seven-year-old daughter was very happy to have choices. It's the first ice cream stand we visited where they have Gluten Free Cones.
When we place our order, we told the server about her allergy and they not only made sure that the scoop was well cleaned. They scooped the Ice Cream from an unopened container underneath the regular container.
Clearly they understood the risk of cross-contamination - after all they had two different types of gluten-free cones. They probably served a lot of allergy users.
The Ice Cream was good. She liked the cone and glad she found a place where she can enjoy ice cream like her friends.
The server gave my daughter a lot more than she could handle. She really enjoyed the chocolate chip ice cream.
We'll be back for more summertime treats! My daughter gave it a rare one thumbs up because her other hand had the Ice Cream Cone.
The Ice Cream Cafe is located on 5 S. Orleans Road in Orleans Ma. They are located next to Cooke's Seafood.

Wegman's has a great selection of Gluten Free Options.
You won't find a grocery store in Metrowest Boston that has more frozen Gluten Free options than Wegmans.
Today, we visited the new Wegmans at the Natick Mall. We were very happy to see that they had a lot of options in the grocery section and in Frozen Foods.
The nice thing about Wegmans is that they carry a lot of the new products. They also have many popular items in stock - such as Canyon Bread and Kinnikinnick Gluten Free Chocolate Dipped Donuts. ( We were surprised that they didn't have Wow Baking Company Cookies
We highly recommend checking out the new Wegman's in Natick and stock up on Gluten Free foods. Keep in mind that the prices are a bit more than Market Basket or Stop & Shop but the selection is second to none. It's worth visiting to see the latest products in Gluten Free eating.

On our recent trip to Aruba we found it very challenging to find places that offered Gluten Free meals for my seven-year-old daughter. There were several restaurants in the Palm Beach area that did have gluten free options and the one we liked the best was The Lazy Turtle Aruba.
When we arrived at the Passeo Herencia Mall we wanted to go to the Iguana Cantina, but they weren't open. We arrived at 5 - when they are scheduled to be open but they told us that they were ready yet. So we ventured out to another restaurant.
We found The Lazy Turtle nearby and asked about their Gluten Free options. The host had to check with the kitchen, and came back and said that they did have Gluten Free options for us.
When we sat down we were told of several options but was impressed when they informed us that they would be able to make her Gluten Free Pasta.
The pasta arrived very quick, and the server mentioned the dish was gluten free - which is a good sign that the kitchen was aware of the allergy.
My daughter tried a few bites and liked it and she ended up eating the entire dish. Which is a rare occurrence since she typically wants to save some for a later meal.
We were fortunate as they only charged us $5 for the pasta - as part of the kid's meal. (Aruba can be an expensive place to eat out)
We did have plans to go back since all our meals were really good, but we didn't as we wanted to try different restaurants on the island.
We certainly recommend going to the Lazy Turtle for anyone looking for a Gluten Free meal in Aruba.
The Lazy Turtle Aruba is located in the Passeo Herencia Mall in Noord, Aruba. There telephone is +297 5871992.
Like most restaurants at the Passeo Herencia Mall, they don't open until 5 pm.

You can make really good healthy French fries at home.
We have tried generic French fries, from Stop & Shop and Market Basket, and they have been good. However, for the best fries, it's best to go with the Lamb Weston brand - particularly the Super Crispy type.

If you're looking for a great Gluten Free Bakery near Framingham Massachusetts, I would highly recommend Gerardo's European Bakery in Westborough. They have a lot of great Gluten Free options and make a great gluten-free cake.
Check out this cake that was made for a 7-year birthday party:
None of the kids at the party knew it was gluten free and they all ate up their large slice of the cake. Even some of the adults at the party wanted to know where the cake was made.
They did a great job making the cake and having it taste great. We did provide the bubble gum balls and the glasses on top. They were easy to work with and make sure that we were satisfied with the cake before leaving.
Gerardo's European Bakery is located at Gerardo's 232 Turnpike Rd in Westborough, MA 01581. You can call (508) 366-1845 and place your order.

We did a lot of food exploring this year, we found some great restaurants in the Boston area and some delicious food options at the grocery store.
From Disney World to Cape Cod, and from Santa Village to Boston's Back Bay... we tasted a lot of food this years.
In no particular order...

Since 2015, my daughter has put out a good selection of cookies for Santa Claus. He is happy because all the cookies are made at home and are gluten-free.
I would argue that gluten-free cookies are much better than "regular" cookies. Gluten Free cookies have more crispy taste and they stay crispy longer than regular cookies.
Cookies and carrots that was left for Santa last year.
Classic Hershey Cookie recipe that has been updated using King Arthur Flour (Gluten Free) - one of the best Gluten Free Flour available. Anyone that taste these cookies will have no idea that they are gluten free!
1-1/2 cups King Arthur Flour (Gluten Free)
1/2 cup HERSHEY'S Cocoa
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup (1 stick) butter or margarine, softened
3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1-1/3 cups (10-oz. pkg.) HERSHEY'S Holiday Candy Coated Baking Bits, divided
Heat oven to 350 F. Stir together flour, cocoa, baking soda, and salt. In large mixer bowl, beat butter, brown sugar, granulated sugar, and vanilla until well blended. Add eggs; beat well. Gradually add flour mixture, blending well. Stir in 1 cup candy-coated bits. Drop by rounded teaspoonfuls onto lightly greased cookie sheet. Press 8 to 9 of remaining bits on the dough before baking. Bake 7 to 9 minutes or until cookie is set. Do not overbake. Cool slightly; remove from cookie sheet to wire rack. Cool completely. About 3-1/2 dozen cookies.
